Overview
ChatGPT supports connecting to remote MCP servers, allowing you to query GDELT data directly in ChatGPT conversations and Deep Research. This works in the ChatGPT web interface for Plus and Pro subscribers.MCP Server URL:

Enable Developer Mode
- Open ChatGPT and go to Settings
- Select the Connectors tab
- Click Advanced settings
- Toggle on Developer Mode
Create a custom connector
- In Connectors settings, click Create
- Fill in the details:

Global news event analytics — stories, entities, and domain profiles - MCP Server URL:
https://gdelt-cloud-mcp.fastmcp.app/mcp - Authentication: OAuth
- Name:
- Click Create
Authorize the connection
- ChatGPT will initiate the OAuth connection
- You’ll be redirected to GDELT Cloud to authorize access
- Log in and click Allow Access
- After authorization, you’ll be redirected back to ChatGPT
Example Prompts
Once connected, try these in ChatGPT:- “What are today’s top global news stories?”
- “Show me conflict news involving Russia this week”
- “Find stories about climate change protests”
- “Who is Elon Musk connected to in the news?”
- “Profile reuters.com — what do they cover most?”
Requirements
- ChatGPT Plus or Pro subscription
- GDELT Cloud account on the Analyst or Professional plan
- Valid API key from your dashboard
